May has been a busy month here for me. Not only has work been busy, but my family and I took a nice two week vacation out to Vancouver Island. I will talk more about the trip on my personal blog in case you are wondering where we went and what we did. Being on vacation meant that I took lots of photos, and I am thankful that all of those new photos of our trip are safely backed up using MozyHome. One of the mothers of another student in my son’s kindergarten class who knows that I work with computers recently asked me if I knew how to restore data from her dead hard drive. Apparently she turned on her computer one morning to do some work and her computer would not boot up. She took it to get repaired and they told her she needed a new hard drive. They replaced the hard drive but all of her photos, documents and other data was lost. Her last backup to a DVD was back in October. I told her there was probably not much I could do, and mentioned

I find it hard to believe that December is here already! It has been a busy fall. I was just looking through all of the photos I took over the fall. Halloween, my kids birthdays, some school field trips and many other precious memories. I am so glad that they are safe being backed up with Mozy just in case something happens like a hard drive crashes, or something worse like a house fire destroys the machine. All those photos and videos will still be there for me to restore. The $4.95/month is pretty cheap considering how precious the photos and videos are that I backup. Of course with the promo code you can make it less than $4.95 a month.

A couple other interesting things to know about what is happening at Mozy these days. They have a “Computer Nightmares” video contest going on right now. Create a video, upload it, get every one you know to vote it up and you could be going to Hawaii or win a MacBook Pro. According to the official rules only people in the US are able to enter, so us Canadians are out of luck this time.
Mozy is also giving away some “Back The F:\ Up” t-shirts but they are making people work for them. You have to come up with some way to promote Mozy and make them look good. You can read more about it here on the Back The F:\ Up website. If you have not seen one of the Back The F:\ Up t-shirts you can check out iJustine wearing one here, here and here. Got an email from Mozy today letting me know what the promotional code for November is plus a few other little snippets that I thought were interesting. First, if you signup for

Mozy just keeps on going. My favourite online backup service is a lot like the Energizer Bunny. It just keeps on backing up my data. In over a year I have 18.4GB of data backed up with
MozyPro and 58.7GB backed up with
MozyHome. The
MozyPro backup saved me a lot of grief when my hard drive died and got me back up and running with some files that were missing from my local backups quickly. The
MozyHome backup is mostly precious family photos and videos that I cannot replace again if that hard drive dies. I have a local backup of those files as well but it is nice to know they are safe and secure off site just in case.
