Well I am sure you did your homework about that market, and probably spent more money than I make in a year to find it out. It might be a wide market, but from what I see those people don’t want or need a service like yours. They have their trusted news sources and AllTop is not one of them. Those people don’t waste time on the web reading blogs. They are like my wife in many ways. All the extra noise is not wanted or needed, but I am sure your marketing research will tell you otherwise.

The question I have to ask next then is what is AllTop really? An RSS Aggregator or a high class scraper site? (Maybe that should have been my post title.)

“If AllTop wants to appeal to a wider audience it needs to add more features” Honestly, we think this audience is plenty wide. Much wider, in fact, than the audience that the audience that uses RSS feeds already. Also, honestly, we won’t be adding these kind of power user features. We refer people to Netvibes and Pageflakes for full customization.

Thanks Rhett. I just don’t see any innovation with AllTop. Sure they have a lot of categories, but what makes it stand out from other news sites on the web.

interesting post on alltop. I agree there isnt anything special about alltop other then Guys backing that makes it interesting. You should check out Feedables. They currently allow u to register for yoru own site so you can create and customize your own aggregator

Good post Lee. I have looked at AllTop a couple of times, specifically because I have Guy and Shoemoney and others in my reader who have mentioned it. While I understand the point that AllTop is good for people who don’t use feedreaders, it just seems to reinforce the already reinforced clique of “cool” bloggers. Even people without RSS feeds know about Problogger. I would think a service that sought out the next generation bloggers would be more ideal. Even if that didn’t include me .
